<h3 style="text-align: center;">四大金屬歌劇之一</h3><h1 style="text-align: center;"><b>Dream Theater<br>《Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory》</b></h1> <h3><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">1999年,在眾多樂迷的殷殷期盼下,Dream Theater果然不負(fù)眾望,推出了一張令人振奮激賞的Concept Album,這是Dream Theater繼《Images and Words》之后前衛(wèi)金屬論壇最勁爆的焦點新聞。各種報導(dǎo)與評論相繼出籠,喜歡在線上聊天的網(wǎng)友也多了一分議題,Dream Theater剎時成了前金樂壇萬人睹目的焦點,這張專輯不但替前衛(wèi)金屬的定義與精神做了最佳銓釋,也替前衛(wèi)金屬的編曲、創(chuàng)作、演奏技巧以及發(fā)展方向立了一個新的里程碑。</font></h3> <h3><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">《Scenes From A Memory》的出現(xiàn)對Dream Theater有著雙重的意義:其一是挾其前衛(wèi)金屬教父之勢,完成了一張具有完整概念的前衛(wèi)金屬歌劇(Metallic Opera),這張專輯與The Who的《Tommy》,Pink Floyd的《The Wall》,Queensryche的《Operation: Mindcrime》,并稱搖滾四大歌劇。然其編劇架構(gòu)與演奏技巧之復(fù)雜度遠(yuǎn)勝於前者,堪稱是一張經(jīng)得起時間考驗的經(jīng)典作品。而2000年5月20日的來臺演唱會,扎扎實實的一口氣將這個歌劇搬上舞臺,這種無間斷式的演奏不但徹底的讓樂迷確信這不是像Queen一樣要藉助錄音室重復(fù)錄音的技巧創(chuàng)作出來的作品,也讓我們見識到團(tuán)員的體力與默契,這也是搖滾樂界罕見的現(xiàn)場演唱。其二是Dream Theater的鍵盤手屢經(jīng)更軼,由Kevin Moore、Derek Sherinian而換成了Jordan Rudess,使Dream Theater成了典型的學(xué)院派樂團(tuán)。而這種學(xué)院派樂師的深厚樂理涵養(yǎng),加上James Labrie這位Progressive Metal難得一見的主唱(目前仍在老師指導(dǎo)下勤練聲樂),這張專輯架構(gòu)的嚴(yán)緊度與演奏技巧的艱深華麗與滂薄的氣勢也就不難想像了。Jordan Rudess,9歲時就進(jìn)入Julliard,受過九年完整的古典音樂教育,最初接觸的Pop Music是Beatles的音樂,17歲那年意外的聽到了Emerson, Lake&amp; Palmer的專輯《Tarkus》,而迷上了前衛(wèi)搖滾以及電子合成樂器,Moog和Synthesizer。對於這種能隨心所慾的利用各種音色來詮釋樂曲的樂器為之動容,18歲那年拿到了獎學(xué)金準(zhǔn)備進(jìn)入Julliard音樂學(xué)院的大學(xué)部,而當(dāng)時的指導(dǎo)老師也預(yù)言,如果他繼續(xù)深造勢必成為美國新一代的偉大鋼琴演奏家之一,但是他卻放棄了獎學(xué)金而走上了搖滾樂的不歸路,他曾與名吉他手Vinnie Moore合錄過《Time Odyssey》專輯,也參與過Dixie Dregs的巡迴演出。</font></h3> <h3><font style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">1994年獲得Keyboard Magazine票選為最佳新人獎。最令他得意的是在與新舊的Keyboard手一起評比時他的排名竟然儘次於他最心儀的Keyboard手─Keith Emerson。他是在參與Dream Theater的成員Mike Portnoy與John Petrucci的Side Project:Liquid Tension Experiment時被延纜進(jìn)來的。Dream Theater的成員除了James Labrie之外,其他的成員都來自於波斯頓的Berklee School of Music。我們可以在Kevin Moore時期的Dream Theater作品中發(fā)現(xiàn)Keyboard和Guitar是勢均力敵的。而Derek Sherinian時期的作品《A Change Of Seasons》、《Falling Into Infinity》吉他似乎佔了主導(dǎo)性的地位。Derek的Keyboard固然華麗,但感覺上是較被動,變成了潤飾和氣氛營造的角色。而這張由 Jordan Rudess擔(dān)綱的專輯卻是Keyboard與Guitar分廷抗禮,不但華麗典雅,而且囂張跋扈,在在處處可以發(fā)現(xiàn)Keyboard與Guitar的競飆,換言之Dream Theater回到Kevin Moore時代的樂風(fēng)但復(fù)雜度尤有過之。這張專輯的故事是否與《Images and Worlds》中的"Metropolis part 1"有絕對的關(guān)聯(lián)?很難論定,但是從Part 1的歌詞中的 "I was told there's a miracle for each day I try.
